Auditory Processing Pathway

Auditory Processing disorder refers to deficits in the neural processing of auditory information in the Central Auditory Nervous system of the brain. Students with APD may have difficulties in higher-order language, learning and communication functions.

APD often coexists with other disorders such as attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder [ADHD], language impairment and learning disability. It may also affect a student’s listening, communication, academic success, and psychosocial wellness.

The overall goal of intervention is to provide the individual with the ability to communicate more effectively in everyday contexts.
