Explorers’
Early Intervention Programme (EIP)

designed and run by Allied Health Professionals

A Multidisciplinary Early Intervention Centre (EIC) in Singapore

The AKIDS Explorers’ Early Intervention Programme (Explorers’ EIP) is a holistic early intervention programme that emphasises the development of physical, cognitive, communicative, social and adaptive skills through fun and sustainable programmes.

Run jointly by our Allied Health Professionals comprising Speech Therapists, Occupational Therapists and Child Psychologists, Explorers’ EIP equips your child with the skills required to maximise their potential for effective living and life-long learning.

Drawing from various early childhood approaches, AKIDS Explorers’ EIP curriculum is:

Ψ Designed to help your child succeed in his or her environment
Ψ Multi-disciplinary in design
Ψ Play-based experiential learning
Ψ Conducted by fully qualified Allied Health Professionals

Admissions to EIP

AKIDS accepts enrollment throughout the year subject to capacity and an initial assessment for suitability both for your child and other classmates. Fit is an important consideration on whether a particular EIP programme will be beneficial to your child.

Initial Assessment

An initial consultation and preliminary assessment are essential to understand how your child's past experiences influence their present abilities, observed behaviours, and unique requirements.

The AKIDS Approach to Early Intervention

Our Early Intervention approach is adapted from the Pyramid of Learning developed by occupational therapist Kathleen Taylor and special educator Maryann Trott.

The diagram provides a framework of how children learn (hover over the pyramid for a fun surprise!). As illustrated, the skills at the bottom layer of the pyramid form the foundation that supports the skills in the layers above. Only when the foundation is sufficiently developed can the higher-level skills be achieved.

For instance, children may be referred to therapeutic services when they demonstrate difficulties with higher-order skills such as academic struggles. Upon assessment, they could instead have issues with sensory regulation such that they could not concentrate in school.

Our Explorer EIP adopts a progressive curriculum approach where children would first learn to process sensory information and develop sensorimotor skills. This supports their perceptual motor development which includes hand-eye coordination and postural adjustment. These skills then enable children to engage in social relationships and academic learning.

Early Intervention Programme Curriculum

Annabelle Kids’ Explorers’ EIP curriculum encompasses activities that aim to develop motor skills, adaptive skills and social skills.

The daily activities will follow the programme schedule as shown here to emphasise routine, practice opportunities and mastery of skills.

To ensure novelty, activities revolve around a designated theme that will last for 4 weeks (e.g., all about me, food, animals).
